A dedicated system for breast cancer study with combined SPECT–CT modalities

چکیده
A prototype of a combined CT–SPECT tomograph for breast cancer study has been developed and evaluated. It allows to perform scintimammography and X-ray CT in the same geometrical conditions. The CT system is based on a quasi-monochromatic beam tuned at 28 keV and an array of ultra fast ceramic scintillators coupled to photodiodes whilst the SPECT system is based on two scintillator matrices coupled to position sensitive photomultipliers. CT and SPECT sinograms of a test phantom were recorded and reconstruted with both modalities. Image fusion of CT and SPECT images was then performed. The developed CT–SPECT prototype is able to detect a region of interest of 1 cm, with a 10:1 tumour/background concentration ratio, within an object having a diameter of 8 cm. r 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. The Usefulness of SPECT/CT in Sentinel Node Mapping of Early Stage Breast Cancer Patients Showing Negative or Equivocal Findings on Planar Scintigraphy
Objective(s): This study sought to determine the diagnostic yield of SPECT/CT in localizing axillary sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) in early breast cancer patients where planar scintigraphy (PS) was equivocal or negative. Methods: Prospective analysis of early stage breast cancer patients with nonpalpable axillary nodes undergoing SLN localization prior to nodal sampling for axillary staging. PS fi...

Objective(s): To investigate the diagnostic accuracy of positron emission mammography (PEM) and positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) for small breast tumors of less than 20 mm in size. Methods: The study was conducted on a total of 100 subjects (i.e., 50 patients with pathologically proven breast cancer and 50 normal cases of medical screening). The total number of tumors wa...
متن کاملInitial In Vivo Quantification of Tc-99m Sestamibi Uptake as a Function of Tissue Type in Healthy Breasts Using Dedicated Breast SPECT-CT
A pilot study is underway to quantify in vivo the uptake and distribution of Tc-99m Sestamibi in subjects without previous history of breast cancer using a dedicated SPECT-CT breast imaging system. Subjects undergoing diagnostic parathyroid imaging studies were consented and imaged as part of this IRB-approved breast imaging study. For each of the seven subjects, one randomly selected breast wa...
متن کاملImproved sentinel node identification by SPECT/CT in overweight patients with breast cancer.
UNLABELLED Overweight has been reported as a cause for the nonvisualization of sentinel nodes (SNs) on preoperative planar lymphoscintigraphy in patients with breast cancer. The purpose of this study was to assess whether SPECT/CT may improve SN identification in overweight patients. METHODS Lymphoscintigraphy was performed in 220 consecutive patients with breast cancer. Body mass index (BMI)...
متن کاملRole of SPECT-CT in radiotherapy.
PURPOSE The role of fusion imaging methods SPECT-CT and PET-CT is currently being investigated in radiotherapy (RT) treatment planning. SPECT and PET provide extra information for gross tumor volume (GTV) delineation. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of SPECT-CT in RT. METHODS SPECT-CT studies were performed in 55 patients with (99m)Tc-MIBI/Tetrofosmin (TF), with 99mTc-Nanoc...
